Introducing submersible water or pond pumps for garden ponds, waterfalls and pond fountains. Learn about pump head and pump flow and how they relate to each other as well ( pump curves are used for this) as well as how to compare pump running and purchase costs and understand what volume you need from a pump by working out your pond volume. Did you know in many real pond waterfall situations 2 pumps cost less than 1 pump? This is because power cost for running waterfall pumps is high Do your fish pond pumps cause too many hassles ... make sure you always use a simple submersible pump in most cases and NOT a sump pump? Solar pond pumps are also not normally recommended. We show you how to choose the right submersible pond pump and show you how to save money at the same time. Pondmaster Magdrive Pond Pumps By Danner ... best in class made in USA

Now you know how to specify your pond pump all that is required is to choose the right Pondmaster pump model and choose where to buy it from on-line to get a good deal all round. We help with both ....

As you review the Pondmaster pump  selection tables below bear the following in mind ...

All Pond pumps should have at least 2 years guarantee and any pond pump must be efficient in terms of electricity consumed because most pond pumps need to run 24/7/365. In the table here I have selected probably the most trusted pond pump range in the USA. The manufacturer Danner Pondmaster has been making pond pumps for a very long time and has established a reputation for performance and economy coupled with ease of maintenance and a 3 yr guarantee on most Pondmaster pond pumps. I have recommended them for quite some time and have never had any criticism.

The range of pumps covered in the table will satisfy the requirements for well over 95% of all garden fish ponds. A point to bear in mind as you use the table for Pondmaster pump selection (as with any other type of pond pump) always use the largest diameter and preferably ribbed non-kink hose you can and make the pipe run as short as possible. If you have a pipe run more than about 12 feet then select one pump size up to be on the safe side and avoid becoming dissatisfied with the pond pump performance.

The Pondmaster pump model number equates approximately to the water flow at 1 foot above the pond surface in US Gallons per hour from that particular pond pump.

There are two pond Pondmaster pump tables on this page ...

  • TABLE 1 ...The traditional head versus flow rate pond pump selector and

  • TABLE 2 ... A special table I have created to make it extremely easy to choose a Pondmaster pump for a waterfall and pond situation without having to do any calculations at all

How To Use Table 1 ...

  1. Measure the vertical distance in feet between the SURFACE of the pond and the INLET of the waterfall. This gives you the left hand column number namely head to which you want to pump

  2. Go across the table from this point until you intersect with the closest flow rate (always take the bigger option) that you need. Remember that for every inch of waterfall overflow width work on 63 US gallons per hour as a normal average water flow.

  3. You now know which Pondmaster pump model you need ... just go to the top row and click the appropriate model number. This will take you to actual Pondmaster pump specification page and will also show you where you can get that model of Pondmaster pump on-line from a reputable supplier.

  4. For example if the head was 10 feet and the flow you wanted was 500 gallons per hour you would choose the Pondmaster1200 model

Choose low cost reliable supplier on-line

I suggest you look a both suppliers and compare prices and shipping costs ... take note that both suppliers offer specials at times and these often appear in right hand border of this website.

These suppliers do sell other makes of pumps also of high quality and performance which you might want to investigate and you can search the websites for the model you want ...

Florida based supplier specializing in very wide range of garden fish pond equipment including pond pumps filters and UV lights ... just click the link

If You Have No Waterfall

Go along the row which shows head = 2 feet and then just match the flow you need as described above

How To Use Table 2 ...

  • Measure the vertical distance in feet between the SURFACE of the pond and the INLET of the waterfall. This gives you the left hand column number namely head to which you want to pump

  • Go across the table from this point until you intersect with the closest waterfall width measured in inches that suits your waterfall preference ... waterfall width is the actual overflow width of the edge over which water falls (or sum of the overflow widths if your design has more than a single overflow lip)

  • You now know which Pondmaster pump model you need ... just go to the top row and click the appropriate model number. This will take you to actual Pondmaster pump specification page and will also show you where you can get that model of Pondmaster pump on-line from a reputable supplier.

  • For example if the head was 10 feet and the waterfall width was 16 inches you would choose the Pondmaster2400 model

TIP ...

If you have a large and very wide waterfall and there is not a Pondmaster pump that suits according to this table then you can easily overcome this problem by choosing 2 pumps

For example if your head is 15 feet and the water fall width is 24 inches then 2 Pondmaster pumps will do the job ... one would be the Pondmaster 3600 and the other at least a Pondmaster 2400.
